Insulin Use in Type 2 Diabetes: Care Considerations for Patients on Combination Therapy
Live CE Activity Tells You How To Educate and Counsel Your Patients with Type 2 Diabetes on Combination Therapy
As many as 25% of patients with type 2 diabetes treated with oral hypoglycemic agents require the addition of insulin therapy. This combination approach is directed to compensate for the progression of β-cell failure and an inability to maintain glycemic control. The challenge for clinicians, including pharmacists, is knowing when to initiate insulin therapy and with what type of regimen. Thus, it is imperative that pharmacists should know:
- What is normal glucose homeostasis
- What is meant by the “Ominous Octet”
- The legal issues for pharmacists that are associated with insulin administration
- How to add insulin to a pre-existing oral regimen
- What are the pearls and pitfalls of insulin use in combination with concomitant anti-diabetic therapies
The answers to these questions, and more, can be found by signing up for this webinar on LivePharmacyCE.com.
